The wait is over for superbike enthusiasts – Suzuki’s new generation, 2009 GSX-R1000 is now available in Australia.

Taking Suzuki’s flagship model to another level, the 2009 GSX-R1000 has been completely redesigned from a clean sheet, its first full redesign since the model was introduced in 2001.

The all-new GSX-R1000 features significant upgrades across the board, including a completely redesigned engine and chassis, with major suspension, brake and bodywork developments.

“It’s been getting rave reviews from enthusiasts, racers and motorcycling publications around the world, and the countdown has been on until its Australian arrival. The GSX-R1000 has always been a class-defining superbike, and Suzuki engineers have made that package even better with the new 2009 model.

“Including an all-new engine, a new chassis, new suspension and stunning new look, the 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 has received significant improvements – the result is an unsurpassed superbike package. With American and British Superbike wins on debut, the all-new GSX-R1000 has already demonstrated its pedigree on the racetrack.”

A new 999cc, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine, featuring the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) fuel-injection system, is lighter and shorter and delivers improved performance and throttle response throughout the entire rpm range, while also reducing emissions.

Developed on the racetrack, the new Suzuki is fitted with two large-volume, MotoGP-inspired titanium mufflers and a large and efficient trapezoidal-shaped radiator to reduce drag.

With a new layout, ratios in the six-speed transmission have been carefully selected for optimum racetrack performance, while the GSX-R1000 is also fitted with a revised back-torque-limiting clutch offering improved lever feel and feedback.

The compact engine enabled engineers to create an all-new, more compact chassis, with a new twin-spar cradle frame, 10mm-shorter wheelbase and 33mm-longer swingarm, improving handling and acceleration on the racetrack.

Co-developed by Suzuki and Showa engineers and proven in the gruelling Suzuka 8 Hour, the GSX-R1000 features a revolutionary Big Piston Frontfork (BPF) front suspension system.

Using a single, 39.6mm upper piston riding against the inside wall of the inner fork tube and relocating fork springs to the bottom of each fork leg, the BPF system is lighter and provides more feedback to riders.

The revolutionary new system combines with a Showa rear shock absorber offering adjustable rebound damping, spring preload, and high and low-speed compression damping, with the GSX-R1000 also fitted with an electronically-controlled automatic steering damper.

New, race-proven, monoblock forged-aluminium-alloy front brake calipers reduce weight and improve rider feel, combining with twin, fully-floating 310mm drilled discs and a 220mm rear disc brake.

The 2009 GSX-R1000 sports a stunning new look, with extensive wind tunnel development producing a sharp, clean and edgy look with enhanced aerodynamics and additional rider protection.

Letting riders choose from three different engine maps to suit riding conditions and their style, the GSX-R1000 features Suzuki’s original Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS), in addition to a laptimer/stopwatch and a programmable rpm indicator system with four LEDs.

The all-new, 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is now available for $18,990 (RRP) and is backed by a two-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
