Preview: Polini Grand Prix of Japan
This Weekend marks the 700th grand prix start in the history of world championship racing.
The Motegi circuit has usually hosted the GP towards the end of the year and is a race that has won world championships.
Now in only the second round, we may see the continued early dominance of Casey Stoner on the Marlboro Ducati as the other teams develop their machines. The new carbon chassis equipped bike has shown good pace in pre season testing and a round one win in Qatar.
Valentino Rossi will aim to keep Stoner in his sights this weekend for an opportunity to win at a track that has favoured the world champion in the past.
Fellow Italian, Loris Caparossi will also be out to make amends on his crash while running in second place at Qatar. Having won 3 years in row at Motegi, Caparossi has good reason to expect to be there on Sunday afternoon.
Injuries for Danni Pedrosa will put a dampener to his hopes at Honda’s home track and the same goes for Nicky Hayden. Hayden will have stitches removed prior to the race but he is still not up to speed on the Ducati.
Expect a good battle for the third to fifth positions between; Caparossi, Lorenzo, and Dovizioso. Takahashi on board the Scot Racing Honda could get in the mix for his home GP where the Japanese show good form.
